How Open is Open?
I seem to have been made. Or maked.
Anyhow, it’s been brought to my attention that even though I’m giving away the schematics, because I place commercial restrictions on the unit it is not really open source hardware.
Hmm.
I’m not sure what to do. I want to be a hip guy loved by the throngs, but I don’t want to be screwed either. It’s not so much the money as the credit. So I can
- Leave it as it is, and change the license to an SGML deal
- Open it up and hope that people properly credit me
- Open it up and start actively making the boards
- Keep it closed and start making the boards
Thoughts?
Update - I’m leaning towards opening it up. A couple of folks have emailed me some nifty ideas. That I will elaborate on later. Thanks!
